HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-25-1957 Regular MeetingSTATE OF<' ALABAP,IA County of Baldwin The City Council of the pity of- Fairhope met in regular- session at the City Hall, Monday, February 25, 1957 with the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton, C i ty Mancger C. B. N i emeyer, Counc i (men: C . F. Bel an-, John W. F homing, Johnnie,F McGaniels and Barney L. Shul1. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read andapproved.. Dickie Dryer rcported to the Council that the sanitary facilities of the Beach Theatre would be available for the Skating Rink on the Beach. Mr. Owen Davis and Mr. Howard Davis, Jr. requested boat space in Fly C reet a;t the present wharf. Na action taken until work in Fly C ree-A has been completed. Mr. Fitzsimmons of the National Cash Register Company gave a report to the Council on National Billing Machine, Mr. Beebe, City Attorney, was authorized to draw up an Ordinance licensing Trad'a Stamps which would bediscussed and voted on by the City Council at a future meeting. Motion by Councilman Fleming seconded by Councilman McDaricls that the building appl ication of Mr. H. C. Parker be approved' 51 from East property I ine and 16'-6" from property tine on Satsuma Street. Motion carried. ;.lotion by Councilman Fleming seconded by Councilman McDariels that the garbage contract with Eugene Bosby be extended through Scpterber 30, 1960 r4th the same provisions as contract signed on November 26, 195,6. Voting Yes; Councilmen Fleming, McDaniels, Ruffles and Shull. Voting No, Councilman Belew. Motion carried. t.�r. N i e meyer, City Manager, was instructed to secure cost of soundproofing the doC pound and cost of moving dog pound to dnother location. Councilman Ruffles, Chairman of Park and Recreation Committee, gave the following report to the Council: The committee on Park andRecr.ation has given careful and serious consideration to the acsign^nint given to them. It not only has taken into consic' ration the opinions of its Tembers but has also given consideration to the findings of a previous comet i t tee, appo i ntcd by the City Council to study the Park and Recrcat i on neads of- our City as well as to what it believes to be general public opinion. As a result of our study, wc, have come to certain definite conclusions which we believe,to be supported by the findings of the forcer committee and the general public. The follow ing is a unamious report of the committee. I,. That there be created as provided by law a Park and Recreation Board'charged with the responsibility of developing and administer— ing a long range Park and Recreation prdgram. 2. That there be employed by the, City a director of Park and Recreation and that said director work with and under the direction of the Park and Recreation board.. 3. That it be recommended to the Park sd Recreation Board it make the' water front or beach area of its program self supporting. 4. Motion carried. It vas duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn. Ntoticn carried. It not only has taken into consideration.the opinions of its members but has also given consideration to the findings of a previous committee appointed by the City Council to study the Park and Recreation needs of our City as well -as to what it believes to be general public opinion.
