HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-14-1957 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABANA County of Bald*,in The City Council of the Cvi ty of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hal 1,, Monday, January 1:4, 1957,with the following members pres-nt: Mayor E. B. Overton, City Mbnager C. B. Niemeyer, C ouncil.men: C. F. Belew, J. W. Fleming, J. F. McDaniels, Wri. R. Ruffles, Jr., and Barney Shull. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read. D. C. Johnson, Chief of Police, gave a monthly report on the activities. of the Police Department. Mr. F. E. Wiggins gave a report. on the Volunteer Fire Department for the past year. Mrs. W. E. McClelland, President of the Elementary and Junior High P.T.A. met with the Council in regards to the gully in the elementary playground. Motion by Councilman McDaniels seconded by Councilman Shull that Mr. Niemeyer contact the State and County Engineer, Mr. Day, in regards to cement block at the prison camp to be used in constructing a bulkhead in the gully. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Shull, seconded by Councilman Belew that the City accept low bid of Gulf refining Co. for gasoline effective Feb. 1, 1957 and ending Oct. 1, 1960, Motion carried. The following bids were received, prices including a li l taxes: Graham OiI Gompany 28.5 Shell Oil Company 28.9 Standard'Oil Co. 29.4 ,duIf Ref ining Co. 28.4 Motion by Councilman Belew seconded'by Councilman McDaniels that the City Manager ands Pol iceChief be authorized to place signs for the Episcopal Church as requested on the N. W. corner of Magnolia and Summit, N. W. corner of Fels and Bayvievw and replace present sign at corner of Fairhope Avenue and Summit St.4otion carried. Mot i ors by Councilman Bel ew: seconded by Councilman Shu I I' that all applications or renew Is for Beer License be approved by the Chief of Police, if not approved by the Chief they must be presented to the Council for approva•1-. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Belew seconded by Councilman Ruffles that action orl IttreFairhope Casino Beer 'License be held for thirty days. Motion carried. Motion by Counci Iman Ruff Ies seconded by Counci Iman Belew that the Gas Department pay to the General Fund of the City $1,000.00 per month in lieu of taxes effective Deeem4yar- 15, f95fT, Motion carried. Councilman Fleming gave a report to the council on low rent housing for elderly retired people and recommended that it be tabled at present tim Motion by C ouncilman BeIew seconded by Councilman Shull that the Quarterly Report of the General Fund be published in the Fairhope Courier. Motion carried. Motion by C ouncilman Shull seconded by Councilman BeIew- that the City authorize installation of Mail Box on Fairhope>Avenue in front of the Past Office. Motion carried.
