County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the
City Ha I I ,. Monday,. May 14, 1956 with the following members present:
Mayor.E. B. Overton, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, L. E. Blatchford, R. H.
Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason.
The minutesof the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read.
Frank Wiggins, C. H. Woodward and George Dyson, representing the Volunteer
Fire Department, met with the Council: in regards to insurance on Volunteer
Firemen.
^Ar. .U. C. Beebe, City Attorney, gave a reporton the procedure to follow
in obtaining a hospital for the City.
Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Brown that the following
Resolution be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED by this City Council of the City of Fairhope that it is
and sha1;1 be the policy of this City Council that whenever additional gas
mains are needed within the Cite Limits by parties desiring to connect there-
with, that this City of Fairhope will pay the cost thereof not to exceed
"100.00, and that if the cost thereof shall exceed �100.00 the City of Fairhope
will make such extension provided the person or persons desiring to connect
therewith shall pay the additional cost; when installed the main d-xtension
shall be the property of this City of Fairhope without claim thereto by the
person or persons contributing to th& cost of such extension.
Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Brown that the application of
Leavins Store: to retail package beer be approved. Motion carried. Councilman
Beralin not voting.
Councilman Macon introduced the following Ordinance which was seconded by
Counci Iman BIatchfOrd,:
ORD I NANC E
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORCINANCE # 221 PROVIDING GENERAL LICENSE TAXES IN
THE CITY OF FAIRHCPE, ALABAMA AND ITS POLICE JURISDICTION.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama as follows:
SECTION I. To amend Schedule 1.2L� to read as follows: ('At:% 0 cS
SCHEDULE 124 - PAINTERS " CARPENTERS a For each person other
than contractor who shall engage in the business of painting or carpenter!'ng,o R

Councilman Berglin moved that the rules be suspended and unanimous consent be
given for immediate consideration of and action on said Ordinance, which motion
was seconded by Councilman Blatchford'and upon the motion being put to vote
the following vote was recorded. V oting,Yes, Mayor Overton, Councilmen: M. 0,
Berglin, L. E. BIatchford, R. H. Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason. Voting
Nay, None. The h%yor thereupon declared that the motion for unanimous consent
for immediate consideration of and action on said Ordinance had been unani-
mously carried. Councilman %lason thereupon moved that the said Ordinance• be
finally adopted, which motion was seconded by Councilman Macon and upon said
motion being put to vote the following vote was recorded: Yeas, /�Aayor Overton,
Councilmen M. 0. Berglin, L. E. Blatchf'ord, R. H. Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D
Mason. Nays, None. The Mayor then announced that the motion for adoption
of said Ordinance had been unanimously carried and signed the same in approval
thereof.

Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by CounciIman Brown that Mr. A. C.
Mannich be reappointed to the V-1ater and Sewer Board for a period of six
years. Motion carried.
Motion by C ounciIman Mason seconded by Councilman Brown that Mr. M. Dyson
be reappointed to the School of Organic Education Boardof Managers for a
period of three years ending May I, 1959. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown -that the following
bills be approved for payment: Motion carried.

Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown that the meeting
adjourn in unadjourned session to meet on Tuesday, May 22, 1956 at 7:00 P.M.
