The C i ty Counci I of the City of Fa i rhope rre,t in regular session at the
City Hall, Monday, February 13, 1956 with the following members present:
Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin,
L. E. Blatchford, R. H. Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason.
The minutesof the previous regular meeting were read and approved-.
George Dyson, Supt. of Gas, Water and Sewer Depts., F. E. Wiggins, Chief
of the Volunteer Fire Dept., E. J. Kirk, Supt. of Electric Dept., Henry
Creamer, Supt. of Streets and Flloyd Phillips, Chief of Police, gave a report
to the Council of the work that has been done in these departments for the
past year.
Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman -Brown that the building
permit of Ray Peacock be approved -as submitted. Motion carried.
Mr. Claude Arnold,, Engineer, gave a report to the., Council on the approximate
cost of paving Pier Street.
Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Macon that the building
permit of J. S. Holland be approved and that he be given permission to
block sidewalk during construction, not to exceed thirty days.. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown that the application
of City Market & Appliances to hang sign be. approved. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Macon that the building
permit of Mr. F. Wiggins be approved. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown that the City
advertise for bids on, tar port. Motion carried.
A petition for paving Grand Avenue wa+resented to the Council and held
for futures reference.
Mayor E. B. Overton appointed City Manager C. B. Niemeyer to work with
the committee of the Planning Board for rezoning.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown that the following
bills be approved for payment:
