County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular
session at the City Hall, Monday, September 12, 1955 with
the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton, City
Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: 111. 0. Berglin, L. E.
Blatchford, R. H. Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and a=p
approved as read.
Mr. Kenneth Cain met with the Council in regards to drainage
on School St.The Council to check into the matter and see what
could be done to relieve this situation.
Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Berglin that
the following be appointed on Board of Adjustment for Fairhope
City Planning Commission for a period of three years:
Mr. C. C. Baldwin, Mr. Bill Ruffles, Mir. H. G. McKean, Mr.
B. Brownell and Per. Al Schermer. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Mason that
contract be let to lowest bidder for paving Pecan Street from
Pomelo to Church and Church St. between Iiiagnolia and Oak,
providing lowest bidder comes within amount of money collected
from property owners in this area. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Brown seconded by Councilman Mason that
the City secure the services of Smith, Dukes and Buckalew,
Certified Public Accountants, to make annual audit for the
City. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Brown seconded by Councilman Berglin that
the City furnish janitor service at the Armory for the school
year. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Fuson seconded by,Councilman Berglin
that the following bills be approved for payment:

Mayor Overton explained that the Legislature of 1955 passed a
new law, Act No. 490, relating to the salary of the Mayor for
the term of office to begin the first Monday in October, 1956.
After diiscussion of the new law, Councilman Mason moved that the
salary for the mayor for the term commencing in October, 1956
be fixed as of September 12, 1955 at $1800.00 per year payable in
equal monthly installments. The motiok was seconded by Council-
man Tt:acon. Those supporting the motion were Councilman Berglin,13IRTCR -
Brown, Macon and Mason. Those opposed: None. The Mayor there-
upon declared the motion approved.
Mayor Overton explained that the 1955 Legislature had approved
Act. h0. 394 relating to compensation for members of the Council.
He explained further,that the Council needed to fix the compen-
sation of councilmen for the terms beginning in October, 1956.
On motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Mason,
the compensation of councilmen for the term beginning in October,
1956 was fixed as of September 12, 1955 at $40.00 per month and
in addition thereto, $10.00 for each special meeting attended.
Those voting for: Councilmen Berglin, Brown, Blatchford, Macon
and Mason. Against: None. The 1,11ayor thereupon declared the
motion carried.
It was duly moved and seconded that the 'Meeting a(ijourn. Motion
carried.
