HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-27-1955 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA County of Baldwin The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, June 27, 1955 with the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, L..E. Blatchford, R. H. Brown, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read. Mr. John Beasley representing committee from the Chamber of Commerce gave a report on what had been accomplished toward securing a hospital in this area. Mr. Charley Burns of the Alabama League of Municipalities met with the Council to take pictures and secure information for the July issue of the L eague Journal which will feature the City of Fairhope. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Berglin that the City place a one page ad in the July 1kgRx League Journal. Motion carried. Mr. L. I. Boone requested the City to grade alley from Church Street West between Fairhope and Magnolia Avenue. Mayor Overton appointed Councilman Berglin and the City Manager to check same. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Brown that the salary of Eugene Bosby for additional garbage pickup be increased from $25.00 to $40.00 per week. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown that the application of Mr. Wm. W. Gray to hang sign at his place of business on Fairhope Avenue and Church St. be approved. Motion carried. This being date set for final adoption of Ordinance #235, said Ordinance having been read to the Council, Councilman Macon moved its adoption which motion being seconded by Councilman B4 chford was put upon its final passage with the following results: Voting for the same: Mayor E. B. Overton, Councilmen Berglin, Blatchford, Brown, Macon and Mason, Voting against; None. The Mayor thereupon declared the Ordinance adopted and signed the same in approval thereof. Ordinance # 235 Solicitation of Funds The application of Mr. Hollis Leavins for Beer Permit on Mobile Avenue within the police jurisdiction of the City was held for further information. A request from Mr. Byrd L. Moore and Mr. Esmond Walthall to close and abandon the unimproved area designated as "Street" from Pensacola Avenue southwest to Mobile Highway on right was held for further consideration.
