HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-14-1955 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA County of Baldwin The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, February 14, 1955 with the following members present: Mayor E. B. Overton, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, R. H. Brown, L. E. Blatchford, R. C. Macon and J. D. Mason. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read. Skinner Co. 34.36 American Meter Co. 331.76 United Gas Pipe Line Co. 57474.28 Standard Equipment Co. 147.43 Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. 23.85 Ponder Co. 3.15 Graham Oil Co. 17.26 A Committee from the Taxpayers Association with Mr. Claude Arnold. as spokesman presented a resolution of the association pertaining to extension of City Limits. The Council had previously discussed this matter and did not deem it advisable at that time, however, they agreed to check into the possibility of extending City Limits at a future date. A letter from Mr. Frank Wiggins, Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department, requesting that charges for fires outside the City Limits remain at $15.00 minimum with additional charge of $1.00 per mile and $10.00 per hour outside the police jurisdic- tion was read to the Council. Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Blatchford that the motion adopted at the regular meeting of Dec. 27, 1954 requiring $100.00 minimum insurance for property owners outside the city limits for City fire protection be rescinded. Motion carried. I request from Mr. Tunstall for an increase from 1% to 2% fee for assessing taxes was presented. Action postponed. Sealed bids'on a new police car were read to the Council. Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Berglin that the City accept bid of Gaston Motor Co. for 1955 Police Car. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Blatchford that the following Resolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE that the Mayor be authorized and directed to procure deed from Mr. R. R. Nahrgang for 60' right-of-way on Gayfer Street East to Green Street and that in the evenk he refuses to give right- of-way as per agreement on file the Mayor is further authorized and directed to immediately file eminent domain on same. Motion carried. The City Council received a letter from the Fairhope Planning Commission approving the opening of Gayfer Street East to Green Street with a right-of-way of 60' and a 50' wide access, running north and south from Gayfer Street to Fair - wood Blvd. as near as possible to Bon Secour Street. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Blatchford that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried. .Approved May Attest: City Clerk
