County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at
the City Hall, Monday, January 25, 1954 with the following members
present: Mayor T.J. Klumpp, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Council-
men L. E. Blatchford, R. C. Macon, J. D. Mason and E. B. Overton.
Councilman Berglin being absent.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved
as read.
A committee from the Volunteer Fire Department met with the Council
requesting that a fee be set for fire calls outside the City Limits
and to discuss Ordinance regarding above ground storage tanks for
inflammable liquids.
Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Mason that Mr.
Hughes be given permission to place 4 X 10 sign on North Section
Street subject to removal at request of the City Council. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Blatchford seconded by Councilman Overton
that the permit of Lowell Cleaners to hang sign on Fairhope Avenue
be approved. Motion carried.
A letter from the Fairhope Siggle Tax Corporation regarding
site for Armory was read and discussed by the Council.
Councilman Macon introduced the following Ordinance with was
read to the Council.

Section 1. No person shall opc=,ate a motor vehicle at a greater speed
than forth (40) miles per hoer in the following listed zones
of tree Cit.%
11) on Alabarr,,a highway No. 89 (:'ection $t.) from ttse odor i

(2) On Alabama highway No. 104 from the fast C; ty Limit, crest
to an intersection with Alabama I ighway Pao. b9.

than thirty (30) miles per hour in the followirtg listed zone
of the City:
(1) On Alabama t.ighway ho. 89 (°:obi'.e Ave,) from the : outh
City Limit, northeast to F" 'ls Ave,
Section 3. No person shall operate a rotor vehicle at a greater s.-p k:d
tt,:an twenty-five (25) miles per hour in the following listed
zones of the C:itys
(1) All Streets 8nd ally ys and or( -as not specifically mentioned
or set out herein witztin the limits of said city.
Suction 4. No person shall park a rotor vehicle in any designated area
when said prohibited aces is properly marked with yellow
paint and/car signed.
Lion 5. In addition to all other provisions of law relating the speed
and operation of motor vehicles .n said city, there is !,vreby

highway L'epartment pertaining to the control of traffic and

ordinance are hereby repealed.

Adopted and a proved this 25th day of Wanuary, 1954.

Councilman Mason moved that the rules be suspended and unanimous
consent be given for immediate consideration of and action on said
Ordinance, which motion was seconded by Councilman Overton and
upon the motion being put to vote the following vote was recorded;
Voting Yes, Mayor Klumpp, Councilmen L. E. Blatchford, R. C. Macon,
J. D. Mason and E. B. Overton. Councilman Berglin being absent. V
Voting Nay, None. The Mayor thereupon declared that the motion
for unanimous consent for immediate consideration of and action
on said Ordinance had been unanihmously carried. Councilman Mason
thereupon moved that said Ordinance be finally adopted, which motion
was seconded by Councilman Blatchford and Upon said motion being
put to vote the following vote was recorded: Yeas, Mayor Klumpp,
Councilmen L. E. Blatchford, R. C. Macon, J. D. Masonand.E. B.
Overton. Councilman Berglin being absent. Nays, None. The Mayor
then announced that the motion for adoption of said Ordinance had
been unanimously carried and signed the same in approval thereof.
Done this the 25th day of January, 1954.
It was duly moved qnd seconded that the meeting adjourn. Motion
carried.
