HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-24-1953 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA County of Baldwin The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday August 24, 1953 with the following members present: Mayor T. J. Klumpp, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: IT. O. Berglin, R. C. Macon, J. D. Mason and E. B. Overton, Councilman L. E. Blatchford Being absent. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved as read. Mr. Henry G. Bishop representing the School Board met with the Council too discuss the possibility of assistance from the City in fixing the grounds at the new High School Building. 'Mayor Klumpp appointed Councilman E. B. Overton and City Manager C. B. Niemeyer to meet with the State Engineers to see what work will be needed. Motion by Councilman Overton seconded by Councilman Mason that the City purchase three uniforms for the Fairhope Band at a cost of $150.00. Potion carried. Mr. Beck, Chief Engineer of Bureau of Sanitation, State of Alabama, gave a brief talk to the Council in which he assured us that the waters of Mobile Bay on the Eastern Shore are perfectly safe for swimming. Dr. Bruce Nelson of the Baldwin County Health Department met with the Council in regard to additional payments to the Health Department. Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Macon that the City increase their monthly payments $20.00 per month effective with the August payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Overton that the building permit of Mr. F.H. Bridges be approved as submitted. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Overton that the City Manager be authorized and directed to secure the services of Smith, Dukes and Buckalew to make annual audit. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Mason that the permit of Gaston Motor Company to hang sign be approved. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Mason that the City sell old Ford Truck as per bid submitted. Motion carried. Sealed bids having been received on two new trucks a motion was made by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Overton authorizing the purchase of two new trucks from Klumpp Motor Co., Inc. as low bidder. Motion carried. Motion by Councilran Mason seconded by Councilman Macon that the City secure the services of Mr. W. 0. Shrader to make a traffic survey of our City. Motion carried, Motion by Councilman Macon seconded by Councilman Overton that Mr. W. K. Smith be employed in the Police Department at a salary of $250.00 per month effective September 1, 1953- Motion carried. It was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
