County of Baldwin
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular
session at the City Hall, Monday, February 91 1953 with
the following members present: Mayor T. J. Klumpp, City
Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, L. E.
Blatchford, R. C. Macon, J. D. Mason and E. B. Overton.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and
approved as read.
Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Macon
that the following bills be approved for payment:

Joe Hipsh be approved as
A group of citizens met with the Council to discuss the
possibility of building a gymnasium in Fairhope. After
a general discussion the Mayor Appointed the following
committee:
R. C. Macon - - - - - - City Council
Henry Bishop - - - - - Business Men
Sam Dyson - - - - - - - Organic School
Cecil Pitman - - - - - Chamber of Commerce
C. A. Gaston - - - - - -Fairhope Single Tax Corp.
Dupree Mason - - - - - -Public School Board
The above committee to investigate the feasibility of build-
ing a municipal auditorium or gymnasium and report backto
the City Council as aoon as possible on the following:
Location
Size and type of construction and floor plan.
Means of financing.
Possible types of taxation to reaise funds for the
above and estimate annual maintenance and expenditures.
Possible revenue which could be expected from same.
Estimate possible amount of revenue and rent from
users of the building.
Approximate cost of completed building.
If Public School or Organic School are planning on
building such a building in the near future.
As soon as the above committee reports I will zxkm
ask the City Council to act as they see fit or to call an
election of the qualified voters of the City of Fairhope to
determine what action to take.
The Committee to make a report to the Council at
each regular meeting until gymnasium has been started or
abandoned.
The following bids were received on the Country Club Building:

that the Country Club Building be sold to Mr. L. I.
Boone as high bidder. Motion carried.
Mr. Krause met with the Council in regards to additional
docking facilities at Fly CreeR for fishing and shrimp.
boats to land. Mayor Klumpp then appointed Mr. J. E. Gaston,
Sr., Councilmen Overton, Berglin and Blatchford as a Harbor
Committee to investigate this matter and report back to
the Council. Mr. J. E. Gaston, Sr. as Chairman of the above
committee.
It was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn.
Motion carried.
