HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-25-1952 Regular Meeting5TATt OF ALABAMA County of Baldwin The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, August 25, 1952 with the following members present: Mayor T. J. Klumpp, City Manager C. B. Niemeyer, Councilmen: M. 0. Berglin, J. T. Bradford, J. D. Mason and E. B. Overton, Councilman Steele being absent. Motion by Councilman Overton ford that the minutes of the special meeting of August 18 carried. seconded by Councilman Brad - previous regular meeting and be approved as read. Motion Motion by Councilman Ma-* seconded by Councilman Bradford that the building permit of Mr. R. B. Walker on Lot 2, Block 14, Division 1 be approved. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Overton seconded by Councilman Berglin that the application of Mr. Edward Lyrene for building permit in Block 9, Division 4 be approved. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bradford seconded by Councilman Overton that the following Resolution be adopted. This being the time and place hereto set for the purpose of hearing objections to the Fire Prevention Code, 1950 Abbreviated Edition, due notice having been given and one objection filed, the said Code was amended as follows: Section 7. Amendments made in said Code: (a) The said Code is amended and changed in the following respect: By striking the words "Chief of the Fire Department" wherever the same appears and inserting in lieu thereof the words "Fire Inspector designated by the City Council". Councilman Bradford moved the adoption of said Code as amended seconded by Councilman Overton. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bradford seconded by Councilman Berglin that the City Manager be appointed as Fire Inspector. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Berglin that the following Resolution be adopted: This being the date, time and place hereto set for the purpose of hearing objections to the National Building Code, Abbreviated Edition, recommended by the National Board of Fire Underwriters of New York, 1949 edition, due notice having been given and no objections filed, the said Code is hereby adopted August 25, 1952. Motion carried. Motion. by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Overton that the City Manager be appointed as building inspector for the City. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Mason seconded by Councilman Berglin that the building permit of Dr. H. C. Jordan be approved. Motion carried. a Motion by Councilman Overton seconded by Councilman Mason that the City employ one full time paid fireman to be on duty,at all times, both day and night,. including meal hours, days off and vacations; the paid firemen to be trained, answer to all alarms of fire, and his duties be restricted primarily to fire fighting, fire defenses and maintenance and care of the equipment. Any other functions that may be assigned to him, such as receiving"police tele- phone calls, operation of police radio and operation of water pumping equipment, shall not interfere in any manner with his duties as fireman or necessitate his leaving his duty station, except in response to fires. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bradford seconded by Councilman Berglin that the following Resolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, that there are designated as the places for holding the election to be held on September 15, 1952, for.the election of City officers the following places: 1. The City Hall of the City of Fairhope, at ­which all qualified electors residing North of Fairhope Avenue shall vote. 2. Cummings Hall, at which place all qualified -elect-. ors residing within the City of Fairhope South of Fairhope Avenue shall vote. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that James E. Gaston, Jr., A. G. McKenzie and Bruno Fisher, be and they are hereby appointed as inspectors, and Eugene J. Olivere and E. L. Russell, as clerks, and Ralph Wahl as returning officer for the voting place designated as number 1. That Ray Greggs, Jesse Burke and Felix Bieser, be and they are here- by appointed as inspectors, and JohnW. Howat and Lee S. Masters as clerks, and P. A.
