The Town Council of the Town of Fairhope met in regular
session at the Town Hall Tuesday, September 23, 1947 at
7:30 P.M. with the following members present:.Mayor,
Howard Ruge, Councilmen: J.H. Bennett, C. A. Gaston,
H. P. Ka.mper, W.O. Keeble and J. 0. Stimpson.
The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read
and approved.
Motion by Councilman Gaston seconded by Councilman
Bennett that upon advice of our attorney the tax
Ordinance proposed by resolution for its first reading
at this meeting be held over till the first meeting in
October. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Bennett seconded by Councilman
Keeble that the application of Dennis Gabel for permit
to add to present building on White Avenue and Equity
Street be allowed. Motion carried.
Councilman Gaston offered the following Ordinance and
it having been read in full moved its adoption.
ORDINANCE NO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN
OF FAIRHOPE:
Section 1: That the Mayor be and he is here-
by elected and designated as City Manager of
the Town of Fairhope and shill have and exercise
all powers and authority and do and perform all
acts and duties prescribed by law to the City
Manager under the local act passed by the
Legislature of Alabama at its 1945 session
relative to the City Manager of the Town of Fair -
hope.
Section 2: The term for which the Mayor
shall serve as City Manager shall commence
October 1, 1947 and shall terminate September
30, 1948. The Council has under said act and
hereby reserves the right at any time to repeal
this ordinance and terminate such service with
or without cause. The Mayor shall receive as
compensation for his services as City Manager in
addition to his salary as Mayor the sum of
$275.00 per month, payable on the last day of
each month, fifty dollars of such salary shall be
paid out of the general fund, one hundred sixty-
five dollars out of the Electric Plant Funds and
sixty dollars out of the Water and Sewerage funds.
Section 3: The Mayor's services as super-
intendent of the Light Plant and sewerage and
water systems under the local act of 1939 shall
continue terminated.

Councilman Stimpson moved that the rules which
might otherwise prevent the ordinance being put
upon its final passage be suspended. Council-
man Keeble seconded the motion. The motion
being carried the roll was called with the
