COUNTY OF BALDWIN
The Town Council of the Town of Fairhope met in
Bpecla3 session at the Town Hall, Monday October
21 1944 at 7:30 P.• with the following members
present% Howard Ruge, Mayor,, Councilmen: C. A.
Gaston, W. 0. Keeble and J. 0. Stimpson.
The minutes of the previous- regular meeting were
approved as read.
The following bills were allowed:

Such motion having been seconded by Councilman C. A.
Gaston the.Clerk.put the motion and on roll call
Mayor Ruge did not vote.
Voting Aye: Councilmen: C. A. Gaston, H. P.
Kamper, W. 0. Keeble and J. 0. Stimpson.
Voting Nay: None.
The same having received the majority of the votes
of the Council it was duly adopted, and signed in
approval thereof by the acting Mayor.
On motion of Councilman H. P. Kamper seconded by
Councilman W. 0. Keeble the salaries and compensation
of the employees of the Town of Fairhope were by
unanimous vote fixed as follows to commence October
1, 1944.

ORDINANCE NO. 17l
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN C OUNC IL OF THE TOWN OF FAIRHOPE t
Section It That Howard Ruge, Mayor of theTown of Fair -
hope, be and he is hereby required to act as Superintendent of
the Municipal light and power system and as Superintendent of the
Municipal Water and Sewerage system, and as such he shall serve
as Purchasing Agent for such systems, make all purchases auth-
orized by the Town Council therefor, keep a check on meter readings
and billings for service and collection thereof, see that the
systems are kept in prop4r repair and operation, keep an inventory
showing the supplies and equipment on hand -!for such systems, keep
a full and complete monthly financial statement of all operating
costs and receipts, keep a proper inventory of the physical assets
of such systems, and have all such data and information relative
to such systems available for the Town Council at its first meet-
ing in each calendar month.
Section 2t That in addition to the salary now fixed and
paid to the said Mayor of the Town of Fairhope under the general
law of the State, there shall be paid to Howard Ruge, as Superin-
tendent of the light and power system for the services required
of him in Section 1 hereof, the sum of $75.00per month payable
on the first day of each calendar month out of the receipts to
the Town of Fairhope from such light and power system, and also
for his services as Superintendent of the water and sewerage sys-
tem required under Section 1 of this ordinance, the sum mf $25.00
per month, payable on the first day of each calendar month out of
the receipts to such Town of such water and sewerage system.
Section 3t The Town Council of the Town of Fairhope may
at any regular meeting or special meeting called therefor, dis-
continue the services of the Mayor as Superintendent of the electric,
water and sewerage systemg,and in the event of such discontinu-
ance of his services as such Superintendent of such systems,
all compensation authorized to be paid in Section 2 hereof shall
lapse.
Section 4r This ordinance shall become effective October 1,
1944, and shall expire September 30, 1948, and sooner if the
present Mayor shall vacate the office.

`The same having been read in full,, moved that the
rules be suspended that the Ordinance might be put
upon its immediate passage seconded by Councilman
J. O. Stimpson. The-' motion being carried the roll
was called with the following result:

Voting Nay: None.
The Mayor declared the rules suspended whereupon
Councilman C. A. Gaston moved the adoption of the
Ordinance such motion having been seconded by
Councilman H. P_.: Kamper the Mayor put the motion

The Mayor declared the Ordinance duly adopted and
approved the same.
Councilman H. P. Kamper offered the following
Ordinance and moved its adoption.

ORDINANCE. N0. 170
AN ORDINANCE TO BE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE TO
FIX THE COMPENSATION OF THE OFFICERS OF THE
TOWN OF FAIRHOPE AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE,
PA)MIENT THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN
OF FAIRHOPE s
Section l: That the salary of the Mayor of the
Town of Fairhope, under Section Wf Title 37 of the
Code of Alabama 1940, Gbde a et`he sa_4� is hereby fixed
at $600.00 a year; payable in twelve installments of
$50.00 each, payable on the first day of each Calendar
month.
Section 2: That the compensation of each of the
Councilmen members of the Town Council of the Town of
Fairhope be and the same is hereby fixed at $5.00 for
each regular meeting attended by councilmen, shall be
payable for each month at the first regular meeting
in the next succeeding calendar month.
Section 3: That the salary of the Clerk of the
Town of Fairhope shall be $187.50 per month, payable
on the first day of each calendar month. The Clerk
shall also, until such time as the Town shall provide
a separate Treasurer, perform all the duties required
of a Treasurer, as well as the duties of Clerk.
Section 4: The Chief of Police of the Town of
Fairhope shall be paid a monthly salary of $187.50 pay-
able on the first day of each calendar month.
This ordinance shall take effect October 1, 1944.
