The regular meeting of the Council of the Town of Fairiaope
wa:L held Monday, November 23, 1936 with the following members
present: Howard Kuge, Mayor; At. 0. Lerglin� C. h. Gaston,
ti. 11. Kamper, J. U. Stimpson, Councilmen.
the minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
Aotion by I. 0. berglin seconded by J. 0. Stimpson that an
adjustment be made on the Herbert Forster Street Improvement
Assessment on -beach View Ave and Laurel Street, carried.
The following resolution was aiffered by J. 0. Stimpson who
moved its adoption; the same being read at length, the motion of
adoption was seconded bgt H. P. lCamper. 1he same being put upon
its passage waa unanimously adopted; said resolution being as
follows:
WHEREAS the legislature by itsaction in 1935 set up
the machinery by which the fifteen State owned bridges
have been freed of tolls, acid
'diHERF+" such action has resulted in an acceleration
of traffic1d over the routes on which such bridges are
located., and
WHEREAS the tolls on Cochrane bridge results in a
very considerable hindrance to traffic. between this
section and kobile, its trade center, and also inter-
feres with the fullest use by Mobile owners of property
along the 15astern Shore of Mobile Bay, and
IKEREAS Cochrane bridge is on a very impwrtant trans-
continental highway and the toll results in widespread
criticism of our, whole state among the traveling
public, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Fairhope petition the
legislature in special session, to take such steps
as may be necessary to free th0bridge of tolls.

The question being put upon the placing of said ordinance upon its
final passage, the roll was called with the following results:
AYES: Howard Ruge, kLayor; M. 0. Berglin, C. A". Gaston, H. P. Kamper,
Geo. W. Morgan and J. 0. Stimpson, Councilmen.
NAYS: None.
The mayor declared the motion carried. Councilman C. ti. Gaston:
thereupon moved that said ordinance be finally pissed and adopted as
introduced and read. Councilman J. j. Stimpson seconded arhe motion.
The question being put upon the final passage and adoption of said
ordinance, the roll was called with the following results:
AYES: noward Ruge, -Wayor; M. 0. Berglin, C. A. Gaston, E.-P. Kamper,
George W. Morgan and J. Q. Stimpson, Councilmen.
BAYS: None
The Mayor therupon declared said motion carried and the ordinance
finally passed and adopted. The Mayor thereupon signed said ordinance
in approval thereof.
Gladys Lowell tendered her resignation as Clerk of the Town.
Motion was mode by Councilmn C, A. Gaston seconded by Councilman
M. 0. Berglin, that Miss Lowell's resignation be accepted and that the
uouncil extend to her their thanks and appreciation for her long service.
Motion carried.
Tosn.0 W. Morgan tendered his reaignation as Councilman of the
�.
Motion was made by Councilman M. 0. Berglin seconded by Councilman
5. 0. Stimpson that Mr. Morgan's resignation be accepted and that Cg)uncil-
express their appreciation of his services. Motion carried.
Application of Geo. Vi. Morgan tfor the office of Clerk was received
and filed,
Councilman J. 0. Stimpson nominated Geo. W. Morgan for the un-
expired term of Gladys Lowell Commencing December 1, 1936.
Mr. Morgan was duly eleetedtlotthe office.
Meeting adjourned.
