Prese nt were Council Pres ident Corey Martin, Councilmembers: Jack Burrell , Jimm y Conyers , Ja y Robinson , and Ke v in B oo ne, Mayo r Sherry Sullivan , City Attorney Marcus E . McDowell, and City Clerk Li sa A. Hanks . Co uncil President Martin called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. The following topics were di scu ssed: • Th e first item on th e Age nd a was the Presenta tion by Prin c ipa l Je nn y Breazea le of Fairhope W est Ele menta ry School. Ms. Breazea le s howed a vi deo of how th e 3 mil tax proceeds were used at her sc ho o l. She thanked th e C it y Co uncil for their help and support. Ms . Breazea le sa id th eir slogan is "West Wins" and the y ex pec t exce ll ence . She named a few "Rocks" such as engagement, student collaboration , family engagement, comm unity feel, and th e "Bi g Roc k" attendance. She sai d we want to make it fun for the kids ; we build lea ders by our inv es tm en t in tea c hers. • The next item on the Age nd a was th e Di scussion of th e Bay Scouts of America Troop 47 Overnight Campi ng an d Service Proj ect at Flying Creek Nature Preserve by City Engin eer Richard Johnson . H e said thi s would be one ni ght , May 18, 2024, and they wi ll com pl e te a service project. • The Di sc u ssion to Hire a Consultant for a Market Feasibility Study fo r Fairhope D ocks Marina vers us th e Estab li shed Plan . Councilmember Burrell expl ained th e vision and mentioned th e grant application that was already do ne. Council Pres id ent Martin questioned if a stud y we re nee ded for the plan or could the plan be u sed. Cou nci lm ember Conyers comm ented that we need to dust off the plan a nd decide wha t we want to do. H e said thi s was probabl y put on bac k burner du e to o th er projects being priority . Co un c ilm em b er B oone said the Harbor Board is looking for direction. H a rb or Board member Skip Jones addressed th e City Co uncil and stated th e plan was prese nted to th em. He sa id we need to look at plan and see if we need a co nsult ant. H e told th e City Co un cil th at the H arbo r Board wo uld review and bring back th eir thoughts . • The D isc uss ion of Fitness Co urt Pl acement was next o n the age nd a . Co un cil President Martin stated he was okay w ith the Fitness Court. Councilmember Robinson said it wo uld get more use at th e pi er propert y but after see in g it put together, it is not for th a t sit e. Councilm em ber Burrell sai d there was mi sconcep ti on w here it wou ld be placed ; and now he i s okay w ith the Mike Ford Tennis Center. Councilmembers Conyers and Boo ne agreed wi th th e ot her Cou ncilm ember s.
