HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-1496ORDINANCE NO. 1496 AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE BYLAWS OF THE EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE ARTICLE I. ESTABLISHMENT AND AUTHORITY The Education Advisory Committee shall make recommendations to the Fairhope City Council on how to enhance the learning environments for all students attending public schools in the Fairhope feeder pattern. ARTICLE H. MEMBERSHIP The Education Advisory Committee shall consist of six (6) members selected by the Fairhope City Council. The members of the Committee shall serve terms of three (3) years, and their terms shall be staggered. Two (2) members will rotate off annually beginning January 1, 2015. Any vacancy in the membership shall be filled by appointment of the Fairhope City Council. ARTICLE III. RULES OF PROCEDURE The meetings of the Fairhope Education Advisory Committee shall be conducted pursuant to by-laws adopted by the Committee. The Committee shall elect a Chairperson and a Secretary. These officers shall serve terms of one (1) year or until re-elected or successors are elected. The Committee shall meet the third Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm or at the call of the Chairperson or the request of any four (4) members. All meetings shall be open to the public. ARTICLE IV. DUTIES AND POWERS The Fairhope Education Advisory Committee shall make recommendations to the Fairhope City Council regarding the Fairhope community's vision for education. The committee shall continually identify key citizens, leaders, organizations, and investors to engage in developing K through 16+ educational experiences and opportunities for the citizens of the Fairhope community. Severability. The sections, paragraphs, sentences, clauses and phrases of this ordinance are severable, and if any phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section of this ordinance shall be declared unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, then such ruling shall not affect any other paragraphs and sections, since the same would have been enacted by the municipality council without the incorporation of any such unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section.
