HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-1416ORDINANCE NO. 1416 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1255 KNOWN AS THE PERSONNEL RULES, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, as follows: Section 1. The ordinance known as the Personnel Rules, Policies, and Procedures Ordinance (No. 1255), adopted 27 June 2005, together with the Personnel Handbook of the City of Fairhope, be and the same hereby is changed and altered in respect to the certain section below: SECTION - VIII. Employee Responsibilities and Conduct 8.10. Use of City Vehicles 1. There is a need to designate specific positions that individuals occupy that are authorized the use of take-home vehicles. The intent of this ordinance is to clearly establish the need and the authority for such use, and to establish a more economical system of fleet management. The following employment position and the individuals occupying those positions are hereby authorized to drive their city -owned vehicles to and from their place of residence to work: 1. City Administrator 2. General Superintendent 3. Gas Superintendent 4. Electric Superintendent 5. Water and Sewer Superintendent 6. Public Works Superintendent 7. I.T. Director 8. Police Chief 9. Law Enforcement personnel as recommended by Police Chief and approved by the City Administrator 10. Weekly stand-by utility employees All other city -owned vehicles shall be parked in the appropriate location at the end of each workday. 2. Anyone operating or riding in City vehicles must wear seat belts at all times. 3. You must have your valid, current Alabama driver's license with you any time you drive a City vehicle. 4. You may not loan out a City vehicle to any other person without your Department Head's authorization. 5. You must drive in a safe and legal manner at all times. 6. You must never operate a City vehicle under the influence of controlled substances or alcohol. 7. You must notify your Department Head of any traffic accidents or citations received while operating City vehicles. 8. You must be insurable under the City's vehicle insurance carrier. Ordinance No. 1416 Page -2- Violation of any of these rules, or having an unsatisfactory driving record, or being excluded from coverage by the City's vehicle insurance carrier, may cause the City to revoke your driving authorization, and subject you to disciplinary action. Section 2. Any ordinance, resolution, or part(s) thereof, in conflict with said "Personnel Rules, Policies, and Procedures — 2005", Section VIII — Employees Responsibilities and Conduct, 8.10. Use of City Vehicle is hereby repealed. Section 3. If any section or provision of this ordinance, or of "Personnel Rules, Policies, and Procedures — 2005", be declared invalid or unconstitutional by judgment or decree shall not affect any other section or provision. Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its due adoption and publication as required by law.
