AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 955
KNOWN AS THE PERSONNEL RULES, POLICIES
AND PROCEDURES ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE
ALABAMA, as follows:
The ordinance known as the Personnel Rules, Policies, and Procedures Ordinance
(No. 955), adopted 7 March 1994, together with the Personnel Handbook of the
City of Fairhope, be and the same hereby is changed and altered in respect to the
certain section below:
VI. Employee Benefits
Section 1. Group Health Insurance PMD and Group Dental Insurance.
Employees are eligible for major medical group health insurance, and
group dental insurance with the full premium paid by the City. The
insurance includes both individual and family coverage. Our health insurance
and dental insurance program is more fully described in an insurance booklet
that each eligible employee will receive. For a more complete understanding
of the insurance programs, including eligibility requirements, employee
should read the insurance booklets closely.
The insurance booklets also describes rights of covered employees to
continue insurance coverage at group rates for a limited time if certain
events occur that would otherwise cause the employee's coverage to
terminate.
Employees who have fulfilled all the requirements to qualify for
retirement from the City, and who are at least 55 years old, may be eligible
to continue to receive the same health care benefits as regular employees
until they are eligible for Medicare, except the retired employee shall have to
pay 10% of the insurance cost monthly. The retired employee will not be
eligible to receive this healthy care benefit if they are employed by any other
employer who covers them with workmen's compensation benefits and they
are eligible for health care benefits from the employer.
This amendment shall take effect on 1 November 1998 after its due
adoption and publication as required by law.
