AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 20-5 AND 20-6 OF THE FAIRHOPE
CODE OF ORDINANCES ESTABLISHING SPEED LIMITS WITHIN THE CITY
OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE,
ALABAMA AS FOLLOWS:
"Section I - Section 20-5, Speed Limits Generally, be and the
same hereby is amended to read as follows:
(a) Except as otherwise designated herein or posted
thereon, the speed limit upon all streets in
the City is hereby established at 25 miles per
hour.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to drive or
operate a motor vehicle on or along any street in
the City at a speed in excess of the speed limit
herein designated for or as posted upon such
street.
(c) Nothing herein shall be construed to limit or
modify the authority of the Mayor to fix or alter
speed limits as otherwise provided in this code.
Section II - Section 20-6, Speed Limits On Specific Highways, be
and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
On the following highways or portions thereof the speed
limits are hereby established as follows:
(1) Along U.S. Highway 98 Alternate Route from the north
city limits, south to Seminole Avenue, the maximum
speed limit is hereby established at 45 miles per hour.
(2) Along U.S. Highway 98 Alternate Route from Seminole
Avenue, south to Oak Avenue, the maximum speed limit
is hereby established at 35 miles per hour.
(3) Along U.S. Highway 98 Alternate on Fels Avenue and
South Mobile Street west and south to the south
city limits, the maximum speed limit is hereby
established at 35 miles per hour.
(4) Along Alabama 104 from Baldwin County 11 and U.S.
Highway 98 Alternate Route, east to U.S. 98, the
maximum speed limit is hereby established at 45
miles per hour.
(5) Along U.S. Highway 98 from the north city limits,
south to Alabama 104; thence east along Alabama 104
to the east city limits; the maximum speed limit is
hereby established at 55 miles per hour.
(6) Along U.S. Highway 98 from Alabama 104, south to
Gayfer Avenue, the maximum speed is hereby established
at 50 miles per hour.

(7) Along U.S. 98 from Gayfer Avenue to the south
city limits, the maximum speed limit is hereby
established at 45 miles per hour.
(8) Along U.S. 98 Alternate (Section Street) from Oak
Avenue to Fels Avenue, the speed limit is established
at 25 miles per hour.
(9) Along South Section Street from Fels Avenue to the
south city limits, the speed limit is hereby
established at 25 miles per hour.
(10) Along Fairhope Avenue from U.S. 98 (Greeno Road)
west to Brown Street, the speed limit is hereby
established at 30 miles per hour.
(11) Along Morphy Avenue from U.S. 98 (Greeno Road)
west to School Street, the speed limit is hereby
established at 30 miles per hour.
Section III This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
its due adoption and publication as required by law.
